WSA-TULSA FACILITY VISION UPDATE

WSA-TULSA FACILITY VISION UPDATE

WSA-TULSA FACILITY UPDATES
REV 12/1/2025

The West Bank Sports Complex

This summer The West Bank received a major overhaul to field surfaces, and some peripheral enhancements.

The foundation was put in place for the next steps in the build out of the Kinsey Wright Elite Training Center, the WSA Boys Training Center (namesake TBD) and the WSA Goalkeeper Training Center (namesake TBD).

Case Community RiverCity Parks

This past summer we added a new field #9, expanded irrigation to the west perimeter, expanded field #5, prepped F5 for further enhancements, potentially new lighting, and poured the slab for a new “semi permanent” restroom that will be conveniently located centrally at the facility.

Below are some updates you are welcome to scroll through if curious.  We are always open to feedback to construct or reconstruct, ideas, and of course assistance to continue to build out our vision for our athletes.

LIGHTS FOR FIELD 10/11/12 – BOYS PROGRAM * Urgent Need

The boys have fundraised at a grassroots level very close to enough to begin their facility’s lighting project.  The first step is to replace the non-working Halide lights with LED lights.  This is a priority to provide ample lighting to F12 F11 and F10 as well as to create new capacity on the current transformer (LED lights produce more lumens of light occupying less power from the transformer).  The current transformer is “overloaded” and this causes breakers to occasionally trip.

LIGHTS FOR WEST BANK F3 – BOYS PROGRAM

The light poles were secured in August.   However, before raising the poles the electrician has recommended the F10/11/12 “trade-out” of LED for Halide lights.

The new LED lights, once turned on and used can provide a barometer for how the poles should be set on F3.

COST TO PROCEED & TIMELINE FOR BOYS WEST BANK FACILITY LIGHTING

The estimates to proceed are approximately $20,000.  The target date for initiation is late winter/early Spring.  Significant funds were invested in the boys facility field surfaces this year, and the program is now strategizing how to apply funds towards lighting.
LIGHTS FOR WB F7 of KINSEY WRIGHT ELITE TRAINING CENTER

See the Boys Program lighting plan above and “ditto” for the girls.  The advantage the KW Training Center has at the moment is “most” lights are functional.

WHY ARE SOME LIGHTS at WEST BANK NOT WORKING

Some lights do not work on some nights because of an “overheating” issue.  This has been exasperated because of Flood19 damage to the current transformer (major but not complete repairs initiated last year), and antiquated lights that are more easily triggered and require more power.  The electricians who troubleshot the problem hypothesize external temperatures during hotter times of year, and the internal overheating, combine to shut down certain breakers.

WHAT IS THE FIX TO NON WORKING LIGHTS AT WEST BANK

The primary fix is to replace Metal Halide Lights with LED Lights.

WSA has secured a provider, a quote, and a plan to install.  The funds must be raised to initiate this project.

NEAR TERM LIGHTING PLAN – late winter/early Spring

Replace Halide lights (currently in place) with LED Lights.  The LED lights require less energy, and produce more lumens.  Improving the capacity of the existing transformer allows us to tie-in the new lighting of F7 & F6 (Girls) F12 & F3 (Boys).  This allows immediate solutions and places purchase of a new transformer into a lower priority zone, expediting action NOW.

MID TERM LIGHTING PLAN F3 and F7 – late Spring/early Summer

Set poles on F3, F12 and F7 to light both fields.  This will provide 3 new “fully lit” fields in addition to 5 currently lit fields, and F6 and F2 will be partially lit by ambient or spillage light.

LONG TERM PLAN

Purchase a new transformer to power the NORTH END of the facility to light F2, F1, F4, F5, F6, and add lights to F3 and F7.

WEST BANK RESTROOMS

The Women’s restroom was remodeled this past summer.  An A/C – Heating unit has been purchased and will be installed soon.  The Men’s restroom remodel is slated for late Spring/early Summer.

WINTERIZATION OF WEST BANK RESTROOMS TIED TO IRRIGATION SYSTEM

The winterization of West Bank’s restroom facility in early November, was tied to winterization of our irrigation system.  Both systems must be “turned off” at the same time, at the same valve from the City.

Since our irrigation system covers 30 acres, and is now “wall to wall” covering 95% of the surface area of West Bank, we cannot “afford” for the system to leak during the winter months.

Any system this robust will contain micro-leaks that go undetected, but still are costly (WSA pays the water bill at West Bank in full).

Those leaks will also create breaks in pipes and valves, all costly to repair each Spring.

Once our agricultural specialists determined the growing season was concluded, it became cost effective to turn off the water since it no longer benefits turf management.  It will be turned on again in early Spring once the field surfaces will benefit from the use of watering.  At that time our restrooms will be de-winterized.

We are working on a solution to differentiate the two systems, to allow us to leave the restrooms functional, while turning off the irrigation.

WEST BANK PORTO-JOHNS

We will be adding porto-johns to the NORTH and SOUTH ends of the facility for the convenience of athletes (and parents, coaches, siblings) so that a long walk is not required.

WEST BANK PARKING

For safety reasons the access gates between the Restroom and the North and South parking lots have been closed.  Kids move between the restroom and fields, and many vehicles were crossing the this common thoroughfare.

WEST BANK PARKING TURN-A-BOUT FOR TRAFFIC FLOW

We are contemplating how to install a “turn-a-bout” at the NORTH and SOUTH ends of each main parking lot so that entering cars can easily cycle back out of the parking lot on training nights if all parking stalls are full.

WEST BANK TRASH – WHY WERE BARRELS NOT EMPTIED FOR SEVERAL WEEKS

The trash (about 75% of the barrels) was recently emptied by me (Roger).  It was a full season’s worth of trash.  This was NOT the "plan".

The club does not have a trailer and the trash service being provided by Mr Rivera (Raffa’s dad) was forcing him to add the trash barrels to the inside of his car when his truck went out of commission.  Since Liz (Raffa’s sister) was marrying JP (our 08G and 11G coach) earlier this Fall, we decided to find an alternate plan so that the car was not stinky on the wedding day.

We procrastinated.  We still do not have a plan.

We are developing a weekly plan via equipment, protocols, and systematic approach to trash.

There has been MUCH LESS trash this year since WSA no longer hosts Adult Soccer at West Bank.

PLEASE HELP US KEEP WEST BANK CLEAN – Should be a team Core Value (Serve)

If you see piece of trash, please pick it up.  Keeping the facility clean with be a co-participatory ongoing project.  Thank you for your help.

Currently WSA has cooperated with the River Parks Authority to keep the West Bank gates open to provide biker, fisher, hiker, dog walking, and trail access to the public.  This creates the opportunity for other people to leave trash at our facility.   We continue to do our best to clean up after others in addition to ourselves.  The cleaner we keep our facility, we believe will invite others of the public to do the same.

WEST BANK SOCCER TRAINING GOALS

We added 8 new full sized goals to West Bank during Spring/Summer 2025.

Our objective is to have 44 full-sized goals on site.  We currently have 24.

WEST BANK FENCING

The next major build out (after the field lighting project) at West Bank will be adding perimeter fencing.   The fencing will be aligned to the original “Field of Dreams” concept to ensure it is not a sunk cost, but the first phase of the Field of Dreams project.

Once the facility is fully secured with fencing, additional turf enhancements, and training amenities, will be contemplated.

This will be a major expense, and the project will start once all bills for the turf reno have been secured.

CASE COMMUNITY PARKS FIELD #9

Field #9 is a beautiful example of a soccer pitch you’d want to play on.

The field was originally scheduled to be “ready by” Aug 1, 2025.  Construction was delayed (multiple reasons).

The contractor who built F#9 has not yet released the field to our Parks Dept. which owns the land.  The warranty of the project (estimate of $150K - $200K) will be void if we violate usage terms required by the contractor.

We expect the field will be released to our use and maintenance April 2026.

We may not use the field until after a partial growing season, which would mean it’s first use would be August, 2026.

HOW WAS CASE #9 BUILT, WHY DOES IT LOOK “DIFFERENT”

This field was built by digging out the original field 9, laying a new subsurface, installing new irrigation, fully leveling the surface, expanding the surface by about 16,200 new square feet, and installing a new hybrid of sod that is ideal for soccer.

New equipment has been purchased to care of the new field.

WHEN CAN WE USE CASE F#9 – APRIL or AUG 2026

The contractor who built F#9 has not yet released the field to our Parks Dept. which owns the land.  The warranty of the project (estimate of $150K - $200K) will be void if we violate usage terms required by the contractor.

We expect the field will be released to our use and maintenance April 2026.

We may not use the field until after a partial growing season, which would mean it’s first use would be August, 2026.

HOW WAS CASE F#9 FUNDED

The field project has been funded by metrics of participation during events over the years at Case Community Parks.  The tournament parking fees were reconciled to provide a metric for “attendees” which landed municipal funds to the Case Community Parks Soccer Complex.

CASE COMMUNITY PARKS F#5 – New Lights – Expansion

A subtle change to F5 at Case Community RC Parks is the removal of light poles on the EAST touchline.  These will be returned, and possibly replaced by new LED lights (budget pending).

The removal of the light poles provided an additional 20 feet of width to the field.

In addition, the playground has been relocated (eventually to near the north end of the facility in a shaded area near the splashpad).  The relocation of the playground also provided additional width to F5.

CASE F#5 PROJECT FUNDING

This project was funded by a donation from the Gelesthorpe family.  Tell Referee Michael THANK YOU when you see him.

The F5 project is NOT complete.

The project to expand and improve the surface was catalyzed in late July when we learned that F9 may not be ready for the season and we needed another FULL SIZED field to host our additional games (via girls ECNL and boys 2X teams in ECNL-RL).

Sand was added to portions of the field to help with near-term “leveling”.  At the time this was NOT “ideal” but was our best method to bring the standard of the field up in the time provided.

Raffa has not yet painted the east touchline to the boundary because heavy equipment left dangerous ruts, which will require repair once we enter the next growing season.

Expect Field #5 project to produce a top-class field by Summer 2026.

IRRIGATION & RESTROOMS AT CASE COMMUNITY

A new restroom facility is planned at Case Community on the newly poured concrete pad as you cross the walking bridge.

This restroom will provide convenience for all attendees to soccer events as it will be centrally located.

Irrigation was added to F7 & F8.

This was all part of the municipal funds provided by the SS Parks Department, from research of usage and economic impact.  Again, all the $5 parking fees provided the metric for these opportunities.

NEW FLAGPOLE & AMERICAN FLAG at CASE – Honoring Mark Ashford, MSG, 20+ Years

The American Flag and FlagPole was added to the concrete pad at the entrance as a request by myself.  We will bring back a plaque that was previously removed, honoring Mark Edward Ashford, Master Sergeant, 20+ years of service.

Mr Ashford was a long time club servant who helped Sand Springs SC and WSA rise up in the club’s infancy.  Mr Ashford passed on with brain cancer while he was still serving the club.  He has at least one grandchild playing for WSA today and his two sons Adam & Matt played for WSA 88 and WSA 85 respectively.
