PLAYER FEEDBACK

FEEDBACK:  Player feedback is considered to be a prized tool for helping players grow and develop.

WSA RULE OF THUMB FOR FEEDBACK DURING PLAYER PLACEMENT AT TRYOUTS
Coaches will provide two individual feedback meetings with players during the year.  The first phase of feedback will occur Dec-Feb and the second phase April-May.  14U and younger will include parents, 15U and older parent attendance is optional.  Coaches will collaborate with the player to create an Individualized Development Action Plan (IDAP).

SAFEGUARDING FEEDBACK FOR ITS INTENDED PURPOSE OF GROWTH MINDSET:
It is important that players, coaches, and parents understand that feedback is an “opinion” and does not define a player.  It is also important that players and parents are guarded against requesting feedback in the moment of the “tryout”.  Feedback as a tool for growth and development becomes diminished in its returns when it is applied in a fixed-mindset environment such as tryouts where the feedback is requested to justify the ends.   Feedback should be used in an environment of growth to help produce a means, not an end.  To protect the integrity of the feedback process the players and parents are expected to respect the feedback process during the Player Placement process.

If parents or players want feedback from coaches on “why” a player was evaluated as a “best fit” in a team in which the player and parent disagree, then this should be a scheduled appointment with the staff.  The club technical staff and directors will be happy to assist coordinating these feedback meetings to ensure they are used to help produce growth and development opportunity for the player.  It is discouraged to create this dialogue on site during, after, or before a tryout process.  This type of communication tends to create added pressure for the player, coach, and parents, and thus diminishes the quality of intended purpose of the feedback.
