WSA 95 GIRLS GCSA LEAGUE CHAMPIONS

The WSA 95 girls had an auspicious beginning to the 2010 Season as they captured a runner-up trophy in the Midwest Labor Day Tournament on the opening weekend "playing up" two divisions.  Coach Randy Williams points to this beginning as a moment of confidence for the ladies of the 95 girls. The beginning was just that for a season that saw the team build momentum toward a dominating league performance capturing the u18 girls GCSA "A" League championship by going undefeated, 8 wins and 0 losses, and outscoring their opponents by a margin of 42 to 5.

And the team did all of this "playing up" in the u18 division as a u16 team.  In a league race that was decided before half the season was completed WSA outlasted their closest rivals by 13 points in the league standings (WSA 95’s 24 points to MCW 93’s 11 points), for the largest discrepancy in champion to 2nd place margin in any league in GCSA or OPL this season.  The team amassed 5 shutouts in their 8 league contests and added a couple of more shutouts in tournament play as well.

Head Coach Randy Williams points out team’s practice attendance and commitment to the sport as keys to their ongoing success.  "We had at least 95% of everyone at practice all season.  The team’s work ethic, discipline and focus on their goals allowed them to have a great season," reported Coach Williams.

Coach Randy Williams took over the helm of the team previously guided by Coach Billy Wallace, who remains as the team’s staff coach. The team has had storied history since finishing their u11 year as the "worst team" in Oklahoma.  The team began their ascension from the cellar of the 95 age division and has now positioned itself for at least a shot at advancing in the Oklahoma State Cup, an ultimate goal of the team.
It marks the team’s second GCSA "A" League Championship, a feat quite remarkable considering where the team began in the Fall of 2005 as an u11 team.

The team’s next scheduled events include College Showcase events in Little Rock, Arkansas, and Austin, Texas.  The team has also won back promotion to the Oklahoma Premiere League and plans to play in the Spring division of the OPL.

To rewind in time when many of the same players now taking the pitch for the 95 girls began their careers in their u11 season, giving way to over 70 goals against, and only scoring 2 to their name, is a remarkable time travel journey.  Today several of the players have college playing ambitions and are enjoying the fruits of much labor as one of the top u16 girls clubs in the state of Oklahoma.

Congratulations WSA 95 Girls for another league trophy, a great Fall 2010 Season, and yet another chapter in the storybook of your careers!
